A total of 19 orange members and 1 lone green member braved the wind and Memorial Day crowd on Yellowstone Lake in Blanchardville, WI on May 29th, 2016. In a total of 7 hours of competition (6 AM to 1 PM) a total of 43 legal bass were weighed in for a total of 682.5 inches (almost a 16 inch average)! A total of 8 anglers out of the 20 also brought in limits with the smallest being 55.75 inches and the largest being 72.25 inches.
According to the Wisconsin DNR fish biologist for the region, Yellowstone Lake is known for the densest population of 16+ inch largemouth in Southern WI and it definitely did not disappoint with many quality fish over that length. It’s safe to say that this waterway is extremely healthy and was very kayak friendly at only 455 acres. On to the results…
Taking home both second place and big bass for the day we had Joe “The Beard” Palmer with a total of 70.25 inches for four fish and a 19.75 behemoth Wisconsin largemouth. For Joe’s efforts he took home $192 for second place and another $100 for big bass as well as a $25 Tackle Trap gift card.
The story of the day however was our second back to back winner, Don “The Magic Juan” Thompson. Don stuck it out in his heavily wind-blown area and sacked some incredible bass for a total of 72.25 inches for four fish. Two of which were 19 and 19.5 inches. For Don’s efforts he took home $288 for 1st place along with a $25 gift card for Rocktown Adventures.
Our top five continued as follows…
3rd Place: Matt “Stick Bass” Muscarello with 68.75 inches
4th Place: Jason “Mepps Man” Spring with 64 inches
5th Place: Alan “El Jefe” Wiedmeyer with 63.5 inches
Great job by all of our anglers and especially our winners, the competition is heating up and we look forward to some more giants caught at Jacksonville Lake in Illinois in June!
We also want to thank all of our generous sponsors for the prizes and support to make all this happen!
