It was a crisp 54 degree July morning when the KBL Green Club anglers (and a couple of Orange anglers) met at the Oconomowoc Lake public launch to check in for Tournament #3 of 2017. All of the anglers did a great job with checking in and launch preparation. The big challenge of the day was the early front arrival and the tight launch ramp. Our anglers had no problem with launching their kayaking and dealing with the local boat traffics.
However, the front was not so kind to us that day. Many anglers mentioned that most spots they have located fish on the previous day during practice are with out fish on this Sunday. Seems like the wind change and the cooler over night temperature made a significant difference. However, our anglers grind on and did managed 54 fish totaling 586.75 inches. Here are the results for the day
Big bass of the day is a 17.5 inch fatty from Kip “Smooth Operator” Olson. Kip’s chunky large mouth earned him a cash prize of $115.00 and the Tackle Trap Big Bass Gift Certificate.
Coming in 3rd place is Shaun “Smile for Miles” Flanagan, one of the party crasher from the Orange Club with 4 fish for 59.75 inches. Shaun and Robert Weskamp actually tied in total length, but Shaun got to walk away with the $103.50 cash prize by winning the big fish tie breaker by .25 inch.
Finishing in 2nd place is the other Orange Club party crasher. Patrick “Pooti” Tharp, who is also an Orange Club Staff, brought in a 5 fish limit totaling 78.75 inches. Pooti goes home with a cash prize of $155.25.
Finishing in 1st place, and the proud winner of the KBL Golden Bass Trophy is Green Club’s Shaun Wood aka “Gator Shaun”. Shaun had a 5 fish limit for 79 inches, just .25 inches over Pooti to bring home the trophy, 50 AOY points, the $258.25 cash prize, and the Rocktown Adventure Gift Certificate.
This was another great event turned in by the KBL anglers. Everyone did a great job in making this as smooth as possible. Give your selves a pat on the back for a job well done. We are looking forward to the next event at Lake Jacksonville. Finally, you can check out how the rest of the anglers finished in the result sheet below.
We were also able to give away some great prizes from our sponsors as door prizes for the event. A $50 RAM Mount gift card, $25 SuperNova Fishing Lights gift card, YakAddicts clothing voucher, $10 JB’s Fish Sauce gift certificate, two $10 StankX Baits gift certificates, Bizz Baits lures, KaRu Lures, YakAttack products, Kingfisher custom crankbaits, and TRC Rod Covers. Big thanks to our sponsors for making all of this possible!
We also want to thank the Wisconsin DNR for their support and cooperation. There was an attendant assigned to help us manage the parking and keep the traffic at the ramp in order, and we are grateful for that.
