The week before the Green Club Tournament at Lake Jacksonville, the weather forecast was looking grim. As we got closer to the date, the forecast improved slightly each day. On Friday, the KBL staff decided that the forecast was good enough to give it a go on Sunday.
Sunday morning was cool and quiet as the anglers gathered at the Jacksonville Boat Dock before first light. Light rain fell as the group prepared them selves for launch. As we finished up our meeting, the rain let up as the Green anglers and guest Orange anglers launch to start tournament #4. There was no slipping at the ramp, no tumbling before launch, the sky was overcast, and the wind was slight. Everything pointed to a great day of fishing except for the muddy water, and the cold front that passed through just 48 hours ago. Just like at Vermilion. Ugh.
Good thing the fishing gods were merciful. News of anglers catching fish started to pour in as we got closer to the end of our tournament. As the kayaks gathered near the ramp, action started to really pick up in the final 30 minutes of the tournament. Fish big and small were lost, caught, as the time winds down.
Everyone agreed that it was a tough day. Many small fish were caught along with some donkeys, and not many limits were filled. But one thing for sure, it was much better than Vermilion. When it was all said and done, we have our 4 winning anglers.
Reeling in the biggest and fattest bass measuring at 20.50 inches is Justin ‘Big Diesel” Beer. This donkey was almost as big as his badass monster truck. Justin goes home with a $100 cash prize and the Tackle Trap Big Bass gift card.
Coming in at third place with a 5 fish limit totaling 80.00 inches is Titus “Handline” Dominguez. Titus overcame a broken rod by pulling in the fish with his crafty hands. He takes home $90 in cash prize.
In second place with 5 fish for 80.25 inches, is Chunsum “Flaming Hot Funyuns” Choi. Beside squeaking by 0.25 inch, he landed his final keeper with 5 minutes left in the tournament next to the ramp. Chunsum goes home with a $135 cash prize.
Finally, our first place angler. Finishing with a 5 fish limit measuring 88.5 inches and successfully crashing a Green Club tournament is Tony “Mr. Difficult” Lam. Mr. Difficult was also Dr. Clutch when he landed the 17″, 18″, and 19″ fish in the last 30 minutes of the tournament. Tony goes home with a $225 cash prize, the Rocktown Adventures giftcard, bragging rights, and the KBL Golden Bass Trophy for his fishing cave
Congratulations to all of the winners and for everyone that came out to the event! Other members walked away with some great door prizes as well from RAM Mounts, YakAttack, YakAddicts, Kingfisher Custom Baits, StankX Bait Co., Bizz Baits, KaRu Lures, JB’s Fish Sauce, and TRC Rod Covers. We appreciate all that our sponsors do for us at these events and we wouldn’t be able to make this series what it is without your help!
