The Kayak Bass League Orange Club had their third regular season event for 2017 on June 25th at Yellowstone Lake in Southern Wisconsin. It was a familiar lake for most as the club had fished it once before in 2016, and as it turned out the conditions were almost identical from the previous event. A total of 20 anglers registered for this tournament and arrived bright and early at the main office parking lot to get their parking passes and safety check completed before heading down to the ramp to get ready.
The day wasn’t without its comical moments as two anglers had an unplanned morning jog due to a dead truck battery, and anglers struggled to stay on their feet and out of the water at the launch. Everything else though went without a hitch and the only thing left to deal with were the cool temperatures and wind that kicked up towards the end of the event.
Despite the cold front conditions and the dingy water, a lot of the participants managed to fill out their limit. Some nice bass were caught but the story of the day seemed to be the trophy walleye that quite a few members had the opportunity to hook into. Reports of 20 to 27 inch walleye were pretty common across the board.
So how did everyone fair? Well, let’s get into the final results….
In 3rd place, with a five fish limit of 79.75 inches was Josh “Zebcomatic” Smith! This was the first time Josh has placed in an Orange Club event and receives $90 in cash for doing so.
In 2nd place, with a five fish limit of 84.25 inches was Joe “No Smiling” Palmer! Joe also took home big bass honors with an 18.75” Wisconsin bruiser. Joe wins a total of $235 for his 2nd place finish as well as big bass. Joe also took home a $25 gift card from the Tackle Trap for landing the big bass of the event.
In 1st place then….with a total of 89 inches (almost an 18” average)….was Tony “Hawgs Only” Lam! This is Tony’s first win with the Orange club and takes home $225 in cash, a $25 gift certificate from Rocktown Adventures, and the coveted golden bass trophy! 89 inches I believe is also a new club record for a 5 fish limit! Congrats again Tony!
We were also able to give away some great prizes from our sponsors as door prizes for the event. A $50 RAM Mount gift card, $25 SuperNova Fishing Lights gift card, YakAddicts clothing voucher, $10 JB’s Fish Sauce gift certificate, two $10 StankX Baits gift certificates, Bizz Baits lures, KaRu Lures, YakAttack products, Kingfisher custom crankbaits, and TRC Rod Covers.
We appreciate all of your participation at this event and are thankful for all of the companies that help make this series even better! We look forward to seeing you all at the last regular season event on July 30th at Banner Marsh!
