Nucanoe Pursuit 13
Alan is the President and co-founder of the Kayak Bass League. He has been a life-long angler with the past 15 years solely focused on bass and tournament fishing. It wasn’t until 4 years ago that he was introduced by a friend to kayak fishing, and it didn’t take long for him to develop a passion for the sport and begin competing in local and national competitions. He represents several local and national companies in the fishing industry, including Feelfree Kayaks. He has also served as a tournament director for a local tournament series for the past several years. With his background and passion for the sport it seemed only fitting to create and launch, with the help of his friends, Illinois’ first all kayak bass fishing tournament series.

Scott is a co-founder of the Kayak Bass League and has been an avid fisherman for over twenty-five years. Scott has always enjoyed the challenges that the sport has to offer. He has dedicated much of his time during the past ten years to bass fishing and spent the last two developing his skills in kayak fishing. Scott is a tournament angler on the ABA/AFT series and has fished lakes from the Canadian border down to the southern tip of Florida. He believes that in this sport there is a lot to learn and that successful anglers must acknowledge that there is always room for growth and improvement. His experiences have provided him with an understanding of the importance of the smallest details and he looks forward to each and every moment he gets to spend out on the water or along the shoreline.

Also known as “JC”, Chunsum has shifted most of his focus in recent years to bass fishing after more than 30 years as recreational fisherman. Fishing from the kayak was a natural progression in his evolution; Chunsum has fished in various types of water in northern Illinois. A self-described minimalist angler, he believes in sticking to the basics when it comes to gear and techniques. Chunsum is mostly intrigued by the impact biology and ecology has on his chance of finding and catching fish. He is further motivated by the excitement of competition, the continuous learning, and the countless challenges of the sport. Joining Alan and Scott to launch the Kayak Bass League, he is poised to elevate his passion to the next level.
Although an experienced angler, Tony still approaches the sport with the exuberance and joy of a newly discovered passion. In the last few years Tony has turned his focus to predominantly bass fishing, joining in local tournaments and participating in online fishing forums. He’s excited for the upcoming fishing season and the chance to develop and hone his skills in Kayak fishing. Tony is truly the embodiment of ‘A bad day fishing is better than a good day doing anything else’, and is a welcome addition to the Kayak Bass League Pro-Staff.
When it comes to fishing Titus is all business. From his first trip with his father over 20 years ago, he has been an avid angler. Progressing from a shore fisherman, 6 years ago he began wading local Illinois rivers for smallmouth bass. His addiction to wading quickly turned into a love and passion for kayaking, and he has spent the last 2 seasons focusing on his skills as a kayak angler. Titus is easy going and always willing to swap fish stories. He is excited about the opportunity to bring new people to the sport he loves as a pro staff member of the kayak bass league.
Susie was born and raised in the country outside Washington IL. The outdoors has been a passion all her life and majored in Recreation, Parks and Tourism at WIU. Fishing has been a part of her life since a kid, but didn’t become a passion until roughly 2005. She received her first kayak, a Pelican Pursuit sit-in kayak from a good friend in 2012. She was first introduced into the world of Hobie after seeing them on display at a Rec Show in 2014 and that June she bought her first Blue Hobie Mirage Outback. This year, Susie took 11th place at the Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship and also became a Hobie Fishing Team Member through Champaign Surplus. She still has much to learn, but takes every free moment she can on the water. Her favorite local waters are Banner Marsh and Emiquon National Wildlife Preserve.

Patrick ‘Pooti’ Tharp
Patrick, who we all know as Pooti, joined the KBL staff in 2017. He has been competitively fishing for over 10 years now. Originally as part of the Bass Boat scene he participated in local club trails, jr BASS federation, and high school events. Two years ago Pooti began his voyage of kayak fishing. It allowed him to reach new waters, and still satisfying his competitive edge while staying away from the favoritism and politics that play into glitter boat tournaments. Since his kayak fishing addiction has he has chased bass to IL, WI, MI, KY, TN, FL and TX. As he continues his fishing career he strives to give back by helping younger generation and help them become better anglers. He does this by volunteering with the Mt. Zion HS bass fishing team to help spread his knowledge and passion for the sport.
